in most cases the price is down ,not always because a takeover sets a cat amongst the pigeons .The success is based on momentum as the industry calls it. I call it collusion as it needs a herd on board to achieve an outcome.
Fundamentals are not always the reasoning .I totally accept and agree that the current ndpr price is the driver but that is a short term driver. Scale ,demand and certainty of supply is being completely overlooked and hence the momentum bully crowd can do what they want without scrutiny from a regulator .
remember the stock market was set up originally as a provider of capital to companies and for a place to trade shares . Not as it is today a tool for extorting money from investors by borrowing something you dont own to trash because you can get away with it
