@Margaret63 - I have certainly noticed that nowadays - I more frequently have a bill over $100, for which I need to put my pin number into their thingy . .
Before it was just once in a while - so I have begun to look out, especially in the meat section.
Fruit one should only buy when in season - and I realise that Woolworth sell some cheaply priced fruit in those little cardboard boxes. Some of it unripe so you have to be patient, put them in a fruit bowl and leave them alone . . .
I check grapes now, and you can actually take out or put in what you want into those plastic bags - have recently done that as I needed smaller grapes for a fruit salad. Or try different vegetables - I recently used parsnip as a salad - pre-cooked it, sliced it and then put it in a marinade - I usually mix that with a bean and asparagus salad (for which I need the dill, which cost me a small fortune $5 for 5 g!!).
ALDI's always have cheap eggs - I used to get my eggs from a chicken farm, but they have gone astronomical.
If people shopped with greater discrimination, then there would be no price-gauging by the stores.
We are obviously still a society that is well off. (not a bad thing though!)
Take care
