Why do you buy a stock? If you are like most investors you buy because you think price will rise and want to be part of it. I doubt you have any illusions that your buying it will make it go up. Shorter's think the same way they short a stock because they think it will be going down in Price. I doubt any do it to drive down stock. Just because they think different to you makes you want them to be evil so you say they have an intent to drive the stock down
Open shorts have gone way up. I think is because of the 18 month record that Lynas has of deceasing revenue and profits not because they want to drive down price. This decline has accelerated in last 2 Qs. Here is a chart take a look and tell us if you think this chart indicates the stock will go up or down? I assure you the SP has nothing to do with declining Revenue and Profits . Fact is it is the other way around the declining earnings is moving SP down. Shorter's have nothing to do with that they just see an opportunity which you do not.
