All EV's sold in Europe and Australia must be fitted with an 'Acoustic Vehicle Alert System' (AVAS), which operates below 20kmh. The reason being that EV's are quieter than ICE at 20kmh and lower. But at highway speed both EV's and ICE vehicles emit a very similar decibel reading.
One wonders if such an AVAS device will activate if one's "companion" starts giving directions - now that would be handy.
