Job cutting is the way to go.
Technology has improved over last decade and result of that people/jobs will become redundant.
For example, Telstra department especially programming/acoounts can be move to China. Telstra has a very good footing in China and has connections to good manufacturing facitlies and IT companies.
Australian base call centres are not very cost effective. So move themm to overseas make sense. For example DELL/HP/IBM/Microsoft have their call centres somewhere is asia.
Also merger of competing subsidiaries such as sense, bigpond media, foxtel are also a must.
