No, they did not.

What did they do?

They brought a new shirt and a tank of petrol and went to job interviews - AND, got the jobs ------------ they drove unemployment to record level lows

so, the stupidity of your statement has a clear record ---------- your belief is WRONG

And now many of them don't want to go TO work
They want to do it from home, where they miss the benefit that comes from mixing and socializing with work colleagues, all of which benefits them in progressing in their careers.
