yes I agree with your implied message. we do need a baseload generation. but it must be cost effective, i.e. not forcing up electricity cost, if its to be viable in our smallish population.
what Dud fails to recognise is the cost of nuclear energy is high and so requires heavy govt subsidies to keep the price within the average family ability to pay. with a large population such as the US the cost can be spread more widely. here however the cost would be borne by a smaller number and so be much higher.
for a "small govt, lower spending" aspirational govt this is oxymoronic as the cost to make the electricity sustainable would drain govt coffers and cause them to tax higher. or to reduce essential services.
Dud has not thought this through. no way would Aus be able to pay for a large scale nuclear plant.
