I lived in Islamic countries for about 6 years and discovered the fast was a total fallacy, They were not permitted to eat or drink during day-light hours but could during hours of darkness, so many just turned night into day and slept during the day and ended up eating more than when not "fasting". I'm not talking about a minority, but a vast majority, Have you ever lived in an Islamic country and seen what goes on first hand,
