Hi Zipper
Many years ago I joined the local "Photographic Society" ( camera club) and after a while when my skills had improved I was voted on to the committee, the first thing I did was to remove the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, type of weekly competition
We had in our group a few who had the most expensive equipment and skills to enter and sometimes win International Photographic Competitions
So we had "Photos of Merit" as winners on the belief that as long as they did not have terrible faults in the photo the main attribute was what you saw and liked, in the same way as paintings and also in wine
Most people take photos as it means something to them and as you say sometimes it gives pleasure to others
I asked if you were on the West coast because here on the East coast we can't get really good sunsets, there is always something in the way
Cheers
