And in whose back yard will the nuclear plants go? And I dont mean to ask this question just for Australia, which is blessed with lots of space and sunshine.
Many countries will not accept nuclear. What will they do? If they don't have enough solar, wind or hydro then they will have to buy the energy. Those that do have surplus energy will store it - in batteries for local use, or convert it to hydrogen for shipping to others.
We will never have huge network of servos selling hydrogen - much too complex, instead the hydrogen will go to industrial estates where it will be converted to electricity, or burnt for those industrial processes that need high heat.
Countries like Iceland with lots of geothermal can also become exporters of hydrogen.
Even without government planning, this scenario is likely to happen on its own simply from the business drivers.
This is much easier to do, is a lot quicker and can also be done efficiently in small scale, so many players can participate.
If needed, the electricity can be generated from hydrogen at the same sites as the current FF plants, reducing the need to expand the grid.
