"Why are people arguing over what means what, who said what,"

Because -> John 1:1.............and God was/is the Word -> and God is WORD = Door -> House/Kingdom/Temple -> Head = LORD God Almighty, Father Yehowah.

God IS Spirit the Holy and his words are his Spirit/Person expressed, hence you CANNOT corrupt his words = Person.

He gave Jesus his words without measure, so when he expressed them out, he Became the Express Image of God's Person = WORD, The Word. Heb 1:3.
And Jesus expressing out the words of God in John 14:10, says hearing them, is deemed as seeing the Father = Spiritually.

Jesus says, I am in the Father, he also says, in my Fathers house (word) and Jesus is now the Door to this House officially after the taring of the curtain upon his death and named The Word of God.
John 10:9 - I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. = The word of God.

Here is why people are arguing -> 10:1 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

Jesus is the vine and we are the branches, and guess what, there are vine dressers under The god of wine, chomp, chomp, cutting the Thief's off , which you call arguing.
