The risk is the government of Malawi may nationalize this asset or give it to the Chinese if they paid a large enough bribe. This is already happening in some other parts of Africa. I am not saying it will happen here but it is possible some African countries may ditch international law and hitch their wagon to the rsing Chinese power in the region. Chinese think long term and don't mind paying a little money to secure resources for their future.
