I know everyone complains a lot about the high level of short selling in CUV as well as some other companies. However, are you sure that those that take out a short do not have a long position in actual shares? I can think of how there could be significant tax advantages for someone who, sitting on a substantial gain ie. 500 - 1,000 % and who wanted to reduce their exposure to that stock might find it advantageous, from a tax point of view, to reduce their exposure by taking out a short on a separate account rather than sell the original shares and realize the large gain. Just thought I would throw in this thought.
