You are quite right so I'll have to retract that statement from my last post

I was already aware that the NYSE was business as usual on Monday however on further research I've found that Columbus Day, although still considered a Federal Public Holiday in most states it is not celebrated in California, Nevada, South Dekota and...... MINNESOTA - home of 3M's Corporate Headquarters

And just in case anyone wanted to know (probably not), those 4 states refuse to celebrate Columbus Day because they believe it's offensive to their native Indians who were the original settlers.

I guess it would be similar to one of our States refusing to recognize Australia Day (formally Anniversary Day) for the same reason. Although I couldn't imagine any Aussie arguing an excuse to go to work ;)
