According to the International Accounting Standard 21 - paragraph 48 it is all legit - FCTR accounting 101
On the disposal of a foreign operation, the cumulative translation adjustment (CTA) relating to that foreign operation, accumulated in a separate component of equity, shall be reclassified to profit or loss (as a reclassification adjustment) when the gain or loss on disposal is recognised.
