    6ULDV8,

    Back to the:

"lack of oil charge from suitable underlying source rocks."

    From my readings:

At the Blina Field the "Upper Devonian Gogo Formation" is the most likely source rock. Upper Devonian sourced oil shows have also been recorded in Boronia 1, Ellendale 1 and Jampam 1.

For the Boundary, Lloyd, Sundown and West Terrace oil fields the "Lower Carboniferous Laurel Formation" is the most likely source rock.

As the saying goes Oils aint Oils and I guess the same can be said of source rocks as well.

If you want to do some reading about oil and gas that is relevant to the Canning (or else where) then go to the publications section of the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources:

    www.doir.wa.gov.au or www.dmp.wa.gov.au

and do a search for example under Petroleum Accumulations Reports.

I don't particularly like their site as I think it is some what of a maze when looking for information, but then again I'm a semi-illiterate computer user.

You could also look up publications from APPEA etc.

Since DOIR has the most relevant info it is probably the best place to start.
