Regarding the potential overland conveyor option, I believe that option would be unfeasible. Reasons being, the distance from Winu to Telfer would be way too long to reach full scale production.
I was working at RIO'S Western Turner Mine a couple of weeks ago, not my first time. I believe it's the longest overland conveyor in WA, I think it's around 40-45km between Western Turner 2, and Tom Price where the ore is processed. I couldn't estimate the tonnage of steel, and lengths & amounts of conveyor belts and rollers needed, but I believe it to be a very substantial amount.
A project of the scale of at least 80km's between Winu & Telfer would require an investment of at least $1 billion, and from the earthworks stage to commissioning stage, would be potentially take several years, and that's in the Pilbara hub,...the more remote Paterson desert/dunes environment would take significantly longer. And the ongoing maintenance of an overland conveyor 80-100km's long in a hot desert would be a nightmare.
I think a rail system would be more cost effective. But I still think that RIO may go ahead with a mine & process facility at Winu site.
Who knows,...maybe RIO might be eyeing out Telfer/Havieron as a seperate asset to Winu, as part of a future Paterson operation.
