Baltimore is the 18th largest US port and the bridge is only about 50 yrs old … I am pretty sure there were 300m long container ships in service at the time of bridge design.

There will be design and maintenance investigations as to why th3 bridge collapsed so easily.

The ship was one of the new style of ‘mega’ container ships that are so large, they had to move the bridge forward to be able to see over the mass of containers. These ships have been around, at most, the last 15 years or so.
