Comparing USD prices for gold with Australian companies AUD denominated costs is a mugs game. For Australian domiciled companies with onshore mines the bulk of their expenses are in Aussie dollars. For offshore buyers of Aussie stocks currency fluctations are not a big problem as the Aussie dollar floats according to the AUD/USD rate
One AUD is quoted as $0.653 US now.
Right now spot gold in AUD is $3,428.90.
In USD that's $2,234.08.
The nearby futures price however is US$2,254.80 or $3,452.98 AUD.
All of these figures change minute to minute during trading hours.
