When it comes to employees, Archer prioritises quality over quantity. However, it needs to keep developing or it will be absorbed by international competitors with significantly more resources and larger-scale demands.
The Australian government has repeatedly expressed its belief in an Australia-made future for Australians. It has also declared that it will upskill and train Australians to create complex, high-value industrial goods along the value chain. But in my opinion, the first step toward achieving that goal is to fully-fund a quantum technology sector to development core quantum material (componentaries) that underlies their utility. The kind that Archer has proven its can achieve with it small team.
What is at stake is that, if we want to manufacture a wider range of high-tech products that OECD nations need then quantum materials will underpin them. Otherwise, we might be wasting good money on unsatisfactory products or incurring excessive production expenses by obtaining foreign intellectual property rights rather than benefiting from using our own, which could defeat the purpose of having a value-adding manufacturing sector in Australia – period.
We are at a crossroad. No one in the world has a complete quantum computing solution yet. Because of this, Archer is drafting its own narrative and showing itself as more than capable especially with its release of the p-ESR detector
If the the federal government, Australian superfunds, major banks, or other organisations decide to join in, Archer will be considerably more productive to focus on achieving goals rather than fretting about whether it has the necessary team members to make the next big wins (which is my overall impression of Mo's recent podcast).
There is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to seize the moment. Time will tell which way we go.
