I'm with you 100% on the environmental advantages of Ta Khao nickel over anything coming from Indonesia or any other current project, that's why I invested in BSX too but am absolutely perplexed that Ecopro just invested $11m in a nickel smelter in Indonesia to shore up supply from 'Green Eco Nickel' and plans to invest in a string of others:

“We aim to establish a stable materials supply chain through continuous investments in nickel smelters,” said Harry Chang, managing director of EcoPro’s global resources development office, in a statement.“We plan a stake investment in another nickel smelter in Indonesia to deal with the IRA,” said Chang, referring to the US Inflation Reduction Act

One clear motivation for both Australia and the US to work diligently to ensuring reliable supply chains of rare earths from outside China given the geopolitical environment is the fact China uses their control over them as a weapon against other countries when it sees fit, as demonstrated by what they did to Japan in 2010
