Ok, ANZAC day is a day of remembrance, not celebration. But, when you go to places and see artifacts of Oz soldiers in WW1 - you see a multitude of artifacts that celebrate the individuals. To me, it's like when one has a funeral. We see their life stories a little, we see their notes and memories, their pictures.
I might be wrong, but it seems like celebrating them to me, their lives, their bravery in many cases, their honour in some.
As to why we have a pubic holiday - as far as I know it's to commemorate their sacrifice.
But that takes me to Vietnam and Long Tan day - why not the same? We went, many were forced to, we fought, we died, we won. They sacrificed.
Is there a difference?
