All the discussion around the viability of US NdFeB magnet production here seems to ignore key measures taken to support a ROW supply chain.
In addition to subsidising producers' startup costs (Lynas in Texas, magnet makers etc) there are big subsidies pending in congress for magnets made (mine to magnet) in the US or friendly nations. It has bipartisan support.
I believe our Mt Weld -> Kal -> Texas material would qualify for the full US$30/kg subsidy (= $90/kg NdPr content at 33% of the bulk).
That's HUGE: US manufacturers can make their magnets for very little cost so long as they're from approved nations
