I've always thought it interesting that the day celebrates the first major military campaign
I don't think it's supposed to be thought of as a celebration. I think it's supposed to be a day that people remember those who have given their lives i.e. made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the defence forces. A commemoration given the name of Anzac Day.
