Its all relative.
A Hybrid is cheaper to rego in Qld.
Its still cheaper to run than an ICE (otherwise the Taxis would be using ICEs)
Prospective less depreciation than an ICE due to Government policy
In summary the cost of ownership is less than an equivalent ICE.
This is the reason that "aware" used car buyers are opting for Hybrids
My local Toyota dealer traded 4xCorolla Hybrids (ex 2 year operating lease)
and they sold within a few weeks at the price of new equivalent ICEs
PS: There's up to a year waiting list for these new!
IMO city CBDs, eg: Sydney and Melbourne, will
(like Europe) ban private ICEs within 5 years .
City Council owned cars are gradually transitioning
to Hybrids/EVs in anticipation of that .
