    I suspect that the net profit is higher with Integra just because all of the other costs are higher.

    When charged to patients, there would be a notional profit margin placed on theatre time, bed time, materials, etc. as a percentage of those total costs.

    If so, the final bearer of these costs (insurers, patients, health systems) is most interested in the total cost comparison. I’m unconvinced that for profit hospitals and surgeons are more interested in net profit. Would they really base clinical decision making on which treatment option makes the most profit?!

    Even so, I would think that over time the ultimate bearers of costs will ensure that the aim to reduce total cost dominates decision making.
