employees stopped being loyal to businesses when businesses stopped being loyal to employees. In the 1980s we started it - deciding on a range of employment practices to including redundancies that gave a very clear message - if we’ve finished with you we finished.
despite all the stuff about values, looking after employees etc etc if you create insecurity people eventually decide you can’t be trusted. Young people will have watched their parents - older parents made redundant, periods of anxiety or changing jobs. They’ll have heard conversations with their parents and have siblings who have experienced crappy employers.
many young people put up with it but others don’t or won’t.
