There was a funny story a few years ago about a man who collected fees on a council car park in Bristol (England) for decades. Turned out he wasn't employed by the council at all he just turned up every day & collected the money. He'd been doing it so long everyone knew him & assumed he was legit. I seem to remember he only got found out when he took a holiday & people phoned up asking why no one waa there to collect the car park fees.
