To me it looks like all your assumptions except the last two
1 yes you could buy to prevent your dilution but doubt that is a good reason
2 I have had stocks not react to anything for over a year , I get frustrated and sell and then they amazingly the stock 100 bags after I sell, Paladin being one of those
