Hi jsulli. Yes, I guess my description does sound "akin to tacking downwind" using asymmetrical spinnakers. But punching 30-40 knot headwinds coming straight down the Rhumb Line into 5 metre waves is not fun. A slight cracking of the sheets, another 2 knots and the VMG can get you back to the Rhumb Line quicker.
