well certainly funding of private education and health is a cause of higher taxation. as I argued at the first, we should be funding either system. both cater to an elite that is unachievable by lesser mortals. the current system promotes division and elitism in our community.
both subsidised systems were created contemporaneously using the same reasoning - to benefit the wealthy.
this sin't envy or reverse snobbery as Joh alludes, but the awareness of the gulf between rich and poor increasing; the division of our nation into rich and poor.
both systems functioned well prior to the change in funding under Howard.
