This is a big deal.
I was beginning to wonder if there was some insurmountable problem with the negotiations with the SCPPA. Certainly their requirements are extremely complex and stringent. The sheer multitude of SCPPA members would not help, each vested interest bringing their own requirements . Pure guesswork on my part but having investigated a little I think fairly accurate.
Roger Davey and his team must be very happy. They have worked long and hard towards this goal. SCPPA approval will be a significant achievement. Probably the largest hurdle EVM has had to overcome thus far. This news increases the likelihood of construction going ahead exponentially in my opinion.
Here are some highlights from today's announcement.
SCPPA Schedules EnviroMission Power Purchase Agreement APPROVAL
A Power Purchase Agreement for the sale of electricity from EnviroMission's proposed USA Solar Tower development in Arizona to the Southern California Public Power Authority has been placed on the agenda for approval at the next SCPPA board meeting on October 21, 2010.
"EnviroMission couldn't be happier with the momentum and progress Solar Tower commercialization has taken since EnviroMission shifted the development priority to the USA."
"Whilst details of the SCPPA Power Purchase Agreement must remain confidential at this point in time, I take great pleasure being able to announce this very significant outcome from those negotiations" Mr. Davey said.
Despite the obvious frustration of seeing this incredible idea implemented in another country this is an exciting development. One can only hope that Australian interests take heart from the progress in the US and rekindle local possibilities. I wonder if a local project could be completed first if some key players did a backflip and threw their weight behind the concept?
Clearly the concept has won over a very large organisation in SCPPA who, from my brief investigations, have a budget comparable to the Victorian State Government.
With the nod from SCPPA due to be announced on Thursday, I'll be watching closely for more information.
