I think the Junta are simply stopping the US from heavily funding opposition groups like they do in every country they want to subjugate and ruin for their profit or geopolitical aims. They've probably learnt from Ukraine, Panama, Syria etc etc etc Quite smart really. Though it's certainly not good for us. And longer term it makes the state more prone to corruption and abuse from those in power so likely isn't sustainable. But they can probably keep it going for a few years yet, maybe longer.
