In the 60s and 70s people said the same thing about Japanese cars. It didn't take long for them to change.
I friend of mine has a Hyundai dealership and he told me the pain he went through because in the first year or two their cars had a poor crash rating, and all motoring writers bagged them heavily. Within a couple of years they fixed it, and now they are a dominant manufacturer.
By the way - just about all electric tools are made in China, including the high end brands. Certainly not garbage.
