I do not read third hand reports or comments if I am to feel confident. I ALWAYS go to source material if I can. Otherwise one does fall into either believing without knowing of a conspiracy theory. I was brought up by scientists and that’s exactly how I was taught and try to behave on most things. If I don’t understand the technical aspects I make a decision about whether to delve until I do, seek clarification or decide I’m out of my depth. I simply don’t have time for it on this subject because it includes technical aspects. If I have time maybe I’ll check it
on the poster I referred to - You have absolutely no difficulty using language that is - well unpleasant- with many people with whom you disagree and that language I would regard as the sort of thing a man is more likely to use than a woman. but I have never seen you use that sort of dismissive language with said poster - not even with stuff that is downright vomitous for its objectification.
I think you effectively agreed with my point - because you agree with much of what he says your approach is very different. So your basis for your approach people then is whether you think their ideas are more or less aligned with your own.
well that’s very different from my thinking. Quite frankly there is much less objective truth than we like to think. There may be facts. There may be data. There maybe patterns and trends. And then there is interpretation. Even in retrospect memories may vary.
so I am more interested in whether I think people are decent humans. Whether they have a capacity for kindness and empathy and how they approach disagreement.
so I think
@mogga has some weird ideas
@nippy decidedly off the planet where women are concerned and I could go through others. But I see them as largely polite though mogga does react when poked in what I regard as an abusive manner.
so I don’t think that I have lost objectivity merely because I have enormous distaste for the objectification of women that is beyond a disgrace, blaming women for being raped because they wear make up, abuse towards posters who don’t agree with him or he thinks are stupid. It is entirely consistent with my reactions on this thread. It is consistent with my comparatively conservative views about morality, decency and responsibility.
clearly those aren’t your primary criteria for how you read posts
