I think many city-based people would be surprised at just how internet-savvy modern farmers are. Anyone who wants to stay up with the times, already has internet by satellite. I used satellite quite happily for two years until my local exchange went to ADSL.
GPS is widely used now by farmers to monitor and control (very hi-cost) fertiliser use, steer their tractors, measure yield on a micro basis. Laser is also widely used.
The city media fosters a popular view of 'old' farmers, - as it used to be. They are the ones who are behind the times.
As for what is stopping a mass business move to the country, well, go visit the United States to find the answer to that. One word; Transport.
