I was once in a company that looked a lot like INT. The bankers in that case ruled the process I was part of the team of people executing it. In reality the good guys everyone knew who they were and they kept getting job offers. The bankers kept telling me that we had to conserve the cash and that they were keeping it alive. We didnt skimp on paying the guys who were needed to keep the ship moving forward and did without elsewhere.

This IMO is not about KPI's its about doing what is necessary to keep things together and turn it around. This is about the guys not feeling that they have to explain to their families why they get poorly paid as well as having to do a lot of the work themselves. This is not about sharing the pain . When its successful I am not going to give them any more shares than I am contractually obligated to. We the shareholders have the capital gains - pay the people fairly. These guys were in senior positions - that does not mean they can change things only influence them.
