Hi Plough, you are correct, I should not have been so casual about the differences, they are not the same, in terms of how the ore is mined, the thrust of my point was that it was bulk mining versus narrow vein.
This explanation explains it well I think. If I had had more time, I was going to touch on Big Bell and actual block caving with 1mtpa+ p.a, versus LHOS examples like RMS planned Mars/Saturn. At this point, I don't think West Winds would justify a similar scale to say Big Bell, but... the likes of Bluebird U/G up the road, are already mining volume of over 500ktpa (LHOS).
That is an interesting question regarding the crown. Hopefully I can find an example of where it has already been done.
