A tick of approval for the National Broadband Network (NBN) by the Productivity Commission would be incredibly persuasive in convincing sceptics of the $43 billion scheme, opposition communications spokesman Malcolm Turnbull says.

The opposition has been pressing for a cost-benefit analysis of the NBN, which the government has refused to do.

"But, if the Productivity Commission were to report on the NBN as they should and if they were to give it a big tick from a cost-benefit point of view, it would be incredibly persuasive," Mr Turnbull told Network Ten on Sunday.
