The biggest waste of money was the cost of the two satellites for sky muster that are pretty much redundant now that everyone seems to use Musk's Starlink.

The fibre should have only been used where it was economically viable to do so ie densely populated areas with everyone else using mobile or satellite connections provided by 3rd parties, not the NBN.

Before the nationalisation of the fibre network you could get a 25mps ADSL 2 connection in Melbourne $29 p.m.
When the compulsory NBN came in it went to $59 p.m. for a 25mps connection.
Double the price for the same service!
