Xi's visit to Paris was for optics only. It would have been incredibly provocative for him to have come to Europe and to have gone only to Hungary and to Serbia, which were the real reasons for his visit. Meeting with Macron is said to have gone particularly badly, with Macron accusing Xi of assisting Russia in bypassing the sanctions and with providing dual use items which have enabled Russia to win the war. Also berated for overcapacity.
