Definitely not cheaper. The price of land has gone mental in that part of the world recently and if the purchase price gets renegotiated it will be much higher.
Land owners will be fully aware of this so if there is any chance of walking away from the contract they'd take it. Definitely need to make sure the original agreements are settled.
