David - do you understand what these “subsidies” are? Most of it is simply not charging a special tax on fossil fuels for some purposes, ie. primary producers using diesel don’t pay excise on diesel. Primary producers being mainly miners and farmers. Argument is that they don’t use roads for this work - so why pay an excise that’s meant to pay for roads.
The renewal alternatives aren’t excise taxed by anyone … hence we have a massive hole in road funding black hole.
