This is probably investing 101 so excuse my lack of knowledge... Why is it in the institutions best interest to keep the price low? And how do they actually achieve the control you speak of, is it the hedges that create the weight and prevent SP increase or is it the algos? I just can't work out why, if they have such a large position, why they wouldn't want the SP to increase. Surely they don't care if IMU cure cancer or not, they just care about return on investment.
