Politicians of Albanese's generation were advised to buy residentoal property because having other commercial interests was seen to open them up to conflicts of interest. Residential property was a relatively uncontroversial space at the time. It's now a completely different situation with residential property likely to become an ever more important element in the political contest. Politicians might need to satisfy themselves with the rather less lucrative return of bank interest.
