Costs about A$4/t to blast, dig and move waste rock. Let's assume typical 45 degree pit walls and they just dig a simple cone shape hole before they get down to the ore body at 200m in pre strip
Radius of that cone = tan 45 x 200 m = 200 m
Cost would = pi x (200 m radius in m)^2 x (200 m)/3 x SG (assume 2.5) x $4 = $85 m in pre strip costs
