There has been some debate on this thread as to
whether the Maidan gig was a revolution or a revolutionary Coup.
I tend to favour the latter so far because:
There are 2 elements to a revolution: intentions and outcomes
While the intention of the Maidan mob was to
(a) distance the Ukraine from Russia
(b) join the EC & NATOand as such align itself with the west
The outcome (so far) has been different in that (b) since 2014 the Ukraine has
lost the Crimea and a fair chunk of SE Ukraine (18% in total) it is arguable
that the Ukraine Maidan has not achieved its objectives as per (a) & (b) above)
so , in summary the Maidan (so far) has to be classified as a revolutionary coup d'etat
(source : commonweb.unifr.ch)
The bottom line is that if the Ukraine manages to join the EC & NATO and completely divorce itself from Russia ,
then it can be said that 2013-14 was a revolution. But of course the jury is still out and its a matter of opinion
until the fat lady sings....is it a revolution or a revolutionary coup d'état ?
