Anyone who is vaguely in touch with history will be well aware of the role protests have played in changing policies and practices. Vietnam war, apartheid, even votes for women however what made Mandela a great statesman was they he effectively renounced terrorism and acts of violence (and he engaged in many such acts prior to prison). They period in prison appeared to have given him time to reflect and when he emerged as the leader of a he’s South Africa his truth and reconciliation process was a ground breaking initiative and attempt to put tte past behind and build a new united future it hasn’t quite worked out as he hoped but probably a lot better then it could be I wonder if the Palestinian leadership will have the same capacity to move forward and try to build a nation
