As someone who regularly gets assays from the ALS portal, it is very unlikely that an error of magnitude or some other issue occurred to mess up assays to the levels that were eventually reported. Therefore, passing this off as a "unverified" result doesn't hold much water as a decent reason.
I think people with access to the early numbers would have been buying. Just my two cents (ie - if I had access to those numbers I would have been buying like crazy). If there is any lesson here, it is that AGC needs to tighten the access to who gets the early numbers.
