One possibility is to collect low temperature waste heat and preheat salts used in storage like the saltx project. Pre-warming the salt prior to full desiccation would use less energy per kg of salt and allow more efficient energy storage of the dried salt. A data center could have a SaltX battery system on its roof using waste heat pumped from data hall aircons.
The efficiency improvements would be material at the scales of power in MW ranges.
